Just Wait

Managed to wake up this morning to run again! ^^ (Thank you God!) However, I disappointed the 6am alarm clock again and went for the 7am run. Hahaha. If you're wondering why I'm always trying to wake up at some weird hour to run, that's so I can beat the crowd to the park. Yes yes.. There's not a lot of people at the park but it does get irritating sometimes when you get blocked by a whole row of elders walking along the path that goes around the park...

Anyway, as I was running today, I felt healthier and fitter than yesterday morning. Hence I feel that I can run a little faster. Haha. Yes! But as I ran and pick up my pace, I will actually see some runners in front of me as well. Being the slightly competitive me, I will want to try and run faster than them and even more so if some runner suddenly starts running past me (esp if it's a girl! Nothing against girls running fast but it's just a truth that I don't like to run slower than girls.) However, you have to understand, to do so will come at a cost. And the question is this, can you afford the cost? Really. Though I was very much tempted to just run faster passing these people, God tells me "No, wait!". So I just run at my own pace. He reminded me that this is not a sprint. I need the energy to cover the great distance.

Life is like a marathon. There are times we look at others who have proceeded faster than us in life itself (fast track to getting their degree/honors, getting attached/married earlier than others, earning their first incomes, parents relenting and allowing them to travel to many other places, etc.) and we too would like to be there. And to do that, we pick up our pace to move quickly into that stage of life. Sadly, we never counted the cost. Bcoz what comes after that is probably burn out, depression and weariness that could have been avoided.

We all do have our own individual paces in life and God created us to move at this pace. That is why God is the coach that guides us through this long run. And I've always learnt that when God says "Wait!" I should wait. Because it only means, keep your eyes peeled for there's something better ahead! (It does get me rather excited sometimes ^^ )

Below is a poem from a poster which I bought for myself. I think it's beautiful. It's rather long but I do hope you enjoy it. :)

Just Wait

Desperately, helplessly, longingly, I cried;
Quietly, patiently, lovingly, God replied.
I pled and I wept for a clue to my fate...
and the Master so gently said, "Wait."

"Wait? You say wait?" my indignant reply.
"Lord, I need answers, I need to know why!"
Is your hand shortened? Or have you not heard?
By faith I have asked, and I'm claiming your Word.

My future and all to which I relate
hangs in the balance and you tell me to wait?
I'm needing a 'yes', a go-ahead sign.
Or even a 'no,' to which I'll resign.
You promised, dear Lord, that if we believe,
we need but to ask, and we shall receive.
Lord, I've been asking, and this is my cry:
I'm weary of asking! I need a reply.

Then quietly, softly, I learned of my fate
as my Master replied again, "Wait."
So I slumped in my chair, defeated and taut,
and grumbled to God, "So, I'm waiting... for what?"
He seemed then to kneel, and His eyes met with mine...
and He tenderly said, "I could give you a sign.
I could shake the heavens and darken the sun.
I could raise the dead and cause mountains to run.

I could give all you seek and pleased you would be.
You'd have what you want, but you wouldn't know Me.
You'd not know the depth of My love for each saint.
You'd not know the power that I give to the faint.
You'd not learn to see through clouds of despair;
you'd not learn to trust just by knowing I'm there.
You'd not know the joy of resting in Me
when darkness and silence are all you can see.

You'd never experience the fullness of love
when the peace of My spirit descends like a dove.
You would know that I give, and I save, for a start,
but you'd not know the depth of the beat of MY heart.
The glow of My comfort late into the night,
the faith that I give when you walk without sight.
The depth that's beyond getting just what you ask
from an infinite God who makes what you have last.

You'd never know should your pain quickly flee,
what it means that My grace is sufficient for thee.
Yes, your dearest dreams overnight would come true,
but oh, the loss if I lost what I'm doing in you.
So, be silent, my child, and in time you will see
that the greatest of gifts is to truly know me.
And though oft My answers seem terribly late,
My most precious answer of all is still... WAIT".

Oh, by the way, I managed to improve my 2.4km timing by a whole minute today! ^^ YEAH!!! Just sharing my joy with the readers of my blog. :)
